Above is a screen shot of my work and this was a great challenge.

My media front cover is based on the Hip Hop theme. I intentionally created this for women as I feel there is a niche market for women in the Hip Hop world. Below is a screen shot of my front cover followed by the analysis:

My front cover has a very stylish layout and I believe will really create a big frenzy for the women out there. I decided to use feminine colours which would connote it is a female magazine.  The picture is central to the page showing the importance of the artist.  In addition on the front page I have used a speech bubble which has the quote of the artist herself.  The title had to appeal to women therefore I chose a very lady like font, which would draw in the women.

Similarities between my magazine and a real magazine are, they both know which audience they are going to aim at. The use of language is informal however in a unique way. The front page is simple however with the usage of the right colours and the artist’s picture a warm atmosphere is created. The unique selling points of both magazines are it is aimed at females which I believe is different in the Hip Hop sector.

My double page spread was very enjoyable to create; I used different tools from Photoshop to In Design to create my final piece. The spread works well as it hits out at its targeted audience. These colours worked well with the pictures, and I added a border to make the female readers know this is a magazine for them. I used the features of text wrapping and different fonts to create a spread which I am very pleased with.

Above is another spread from a well known Hip Hop magazine, there are many similarities between both magazines from the well written article to the quotes of the artists. I believe the colours had to work well in order for the article to be a success, because the female audience would notice this. The titles are shown clearly and both have unique points to them.

2.How does your media product represent particular social groups?

As my article is about hip hop and r n b I used formal/informal language as it had to suit women. Most male hip hop magazines have abusive language however I did not want to travel down this route as my magazine is more sophisticated than this and I believed this would work well and it did. My magazine hits out at female hip hop lovers and fanatics.

3.What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The places that would distribute my media product are places like WhSmith, major supermarkets, local shops etc. The reason I believe they would distribute my magazine is simple because it would be a success in the hip hop/ r n b department and many women would buy it. Some money would be needed for marketing purposes once this has been done then the business will gain popularity and this will enable the distributors to buy. The magazine would fit into the commercial market with ease as this is the niche point in the market.

The targeted audience for my media product would be female hip hop/ r n b lovers, who cannot get enough of the celeb lifestyle.

5.How did you attract/address your audience?

I attracted my audience by making this a unique magazine. The first attraction point was making the magazine all about women. This in my eyes was huge as most magazines which consist of hip hop and r n b are aimed at men, and I wanted to counter this. I used very bright colours to create a sophisticated yet subtle look to the magazine, with the artist looking very happy which would draw in the audience. I also would create a website in which forums can be made, and special links for facebook and my space would create a bigger spectrum for the magazine. I also used framing in which I cropped the bottom half of the artists body to concentrate on her facial features. I believe this magazine is very  appealing to women and works well.

6.What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I used many different programmes and softwares when creating my product and I believe this gave me a better understanding on the various different things I could do. Below are some screen shots of my work in progress:

I believe the above programmes have their own different qualities, and it was nice to know I had a lot of different resources when creating my final piece of work.

7. Looking back at you preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

The preliminary task was the college magazine, and this was very tough for me as I had never used any of the products before. Over time with practice and hard work, the progression of my work was building up gradually. Some factors which I had missed out in the college magazine, I knew I couldn’t make the same mistakes therefore I used my blogs to look back at what I felt was going right and wrong for me and this helped me to create a great piece of work, which I was very pleased with as everything I set out to do was completed. Overall I felt the product was a success and enjoyed creating it.
